| 'Untitled 1' Charcoal on Paper, 10 X 8 inches |
The abstract sketches on exhibition at Waves Art Gallery from 6 th – 14 th March have gentle depth in lines on a velvet-like texture, all created with one element- Charcoal. Although Ajay Joshi, throughout his youth has drawn inspiration from the historical monuments and cultural spaces of Aurangabad, he does not translate them onto paper as it is, instead blends them with his creative perception, communicating the structures created within, in his experience of them. Ajay chooses few syllables in terms of lines and shapes, mainly triangles, lines and occasional waves and curves which together constitute the form in his work. The same space explored differently with a play of light and darkness in every piece, one finds almost a meditative repetition of the forms which reveal artist Ajay's devotion to letting these particular forms exist and speak for themselves.-Tanushree Biswas
