“Monsoon Harvest” comes to you under the umbrella of Waves Art Gallery from 17th-25th July 2009. 19 fresh works of art by a bunch of budding artists in their 20's who carry the hope of nourishing and sustaining the growth of art appreciation in our society. A variety of mediums ranging from oils, acrylics, woodcuts on canvas, compressed foam graphic on paper et al. The expressions as well, vary from realistic, abstract and reflective illustrations to name a few. We find ourselves in a social-cultural context
where art appreciation does not form a casual part of our daily life-world.
It is within such a context that artists fight their ways to nourish their
hunger to paint. While some of their families are not even aware of their
pursuasion of art, others struggle to prove that art is infact more than
a hobby, few are lucky to find supportive families. This show celebrates
their courage of following their passion. Persuing art for them is, learning
to speak a language which can express all that which is not communicable
through oral communication. Unfortunately, as we know well, not all society
wants to (learn to) hear them. The struggle in our society is peculiarly
worse, since becoming an artist is not even given the status of a 'serious
career option' for majority of the families. The 14 participating artists are Shrinivas Mehetre, Hema Choudhari, Shivani Soni, Anupam Banarase, Rajendra Poudel, Swati Waghmare, Dhanashri Gosavi, Meenal Bhawsar, Mayura Khot, Santosh Shirsat, Dibakar Das, Snehal Chordia, Sagar Shinde and Harshit Bondre.
