| The Storyteller by Taposhi Ghoshal | |||
| Through a selfless approach towards creating illustrations, Taposhi’s work is practical outcome of her imaginations. Children’s book illustrations and motifs which simply follow the text lines, this lover of children and art always loves to communicate through the pictures which remain absent in the text. Her effort is to add wings to the readers’ imagination so that they can listen, see and understand beyond the text. As a human the artist perceives the big gap forming between children and nature in today’s style of living and intends her works to bridge the distance. She admits that art is a painful journey but her sweet fruit lies in the love and respect she creates towards nature and children. Currently based in Dehli, she is highly aware that, Art in general always plays an important role in contributing to the Indian socio-political context and to bring required changes in the society. Being chiefly a children’s illustrators puts her in a position of responsibility in regards to creating good pictures for children as she tries in her own way to keep a balance on socio-political issues like gender, equality, religion, economic status etc., for their better understanding and developing love towards books. Taposhi’s illustrations are a great opportunity for Indian parents who feel the need to expose their children (or themselves!) to values through colours and meaningful designs. That is not to say it the artists work is for a limited audience. It is for everybody owing to its universal nature. |
